Mount Abu Sanctuary
The Mount Abu Sanctuary is situated in the picturesque Mount Abu, the only hill station of Rajasthan. Mount Abu Sanctuary region is spread in the stunning Aravalli hill range. In 1960, this place was provided the status of a protected area. This sanctuary attracts a large number of domestic as well as the international tourists on India trip. In its earlier days, this place served as the summer retreat for the royal families of Rajasthan. For the past few years, efforts have been made by the Rajasthan Tourism Department to present Mount Abu Sanctuary as an eco-tourism destination. Other tourist destinations of Rajasthan like Jaipur, Jodhpur, etc., were given enough attention earlier and the need was felt to diversify tourism planning in the state. Mount Abu sanctuary was therefore promoted as an appealing eco-tourism, and the results obtained were also terrific.
The Mount Abu Sanctuary, with its rich biodiversity, features a variety of plant and animal life. Some of the commonly spotted animal life in this sanctuary include Langoor, Wild Boar, Sambhar, and Hedge hog. Hyena, Indian civet, pangolin, jungle cat, and porcupine are also found in good numbers here. Earlier, tigers and lions were also a part of this sanctuary but now you won’t find any of them here. More than hundred varieties of plant life are present in the park including some fine varieties of Orchids as well as herbal plants.
Apart from being an eco-tourism destination, Mount Abu is also famous for magnificent temples and is considered among the important pilgrimage sites of India. Jain temples such as Vimal Basahi, Luna Basahi and the beautiful Dilwara temple are some of the best structures to explore here. You will also find here some striking Hindu Temples including the Achaleshwar, Adharadevi, Raghunathji and Madhuvan.
