Desert National Park, situated about 40 km from the city of Jaisalmer, is home of some rare wildlife that is difficult to see in other parts of the country. Filled with a variety of wildlife, this park displays some unusual biodiversity characteristic of Thar Desert region. Some of the animal species that are found here include chinkara, black buck, and wolf. Desert cats, hare, and desert fox are also found in good numbers here. Among the reptiles that are frequently seen here include the poisonous Spiny Tail Lizard and Monitor Lizard. The Saw Scaled Viper snakes are also found in good numbers in this area. A wide array of bird life can also be spotted in this sanctuary. The sweet sound of grey patridge is something that draws the attention of the visitors. Other species of birds that are present here include: Indian rollers, green bee-eaters, bush quail, and drongos which are usually found in the wetland areas of the park. You can also watch here the Great Indian Bustard that was thought to be an extinct species a few years back by avian researchers. Sudashri watchtower is a popular place within the park which offers nice views of the surrounding areas. From the top of this tower, you can watch various resident wildlife species moving freely in sanctuary. Photographers also prefer this tower to capture excellent wildlife photographs without any hurry. This park is undoubtedly one of the perfect places to enjoy on Rajasthan wildlife tour.
