Tourist Places in Agra

Agra is famous for various extravagant monument out of which main jewel is world famous Taj Mahal. After Taj Agra fort can b considered as second jewel of Agra. This memorable building was constructed between 1567 & 1573 by Akbar. This amazing fort is famous since many events which led to the construction of the Taj took place here. Timing for visiting this fort is from 6am to 6pm and free on Friday. This fort is a city within a city, so many fascinating buildings inside the massive walls which stretched for 2.5 km. Major building within building are:

• Moti Masjid :- the masjid was built by Shah Jahan between 1647 & 1653. This marble mosque is perfect piece of craftsmanship which can be compared to a perfect pearl that's why it is also known as pearl mosque.


• Diwan-I-Aam :- to the west of fort is the Diwan-i-am, the hall of public audiences was also built by Shah Jahan and replaced a wooden structure, but throne the throne room with its typical marble work shows Shah Jahan's unmatchable influence.

• Nagina Masjid :- it is famously known as gem mosque which situated in the north-west of the massive fort.


• Diwan-I-Khas :- as name suggest "khas" means special. The hall of private audiences was also built by Shah Jahan in 1636-37, where he could meet the famous personalities of the other part of country.


• Jehangir Palace :- this palace with in the fort was built by Akbar for his son jehangir as largest private residence. This changed the trend of military to luxurious quarter.


• Octagonal Tower :- this tower stands close to Diwan-I-khas and small mina masjid and was built by Shah Jahan. This double storied tower provides a clear view of the Taj and Shah Jahan was imprisoned by his son Aurengzeb till his death.
