Rajasthan Tourism
Located in the northwestern part of India, Rajasthan is among the most popular tourist destinations of India. This state boasts of rich culture and heritage that is demonstrated through its majestic forts, beautiful palaces, art, architecture, music, folk dances and much more. Tourists on their Rajasthan travel get a chance to watch picturesque lakes, rare wildlife, people with colorful turbans and dresses, sand dunes, and quiet villages.
The history of Rajasthan is also very interesting. There are references in Hindu epics about a number of sites of present day Rajasthan, and Pushkar is one of those sites. Buddhism failed to prosper in Rajasthan. However, some Buddhist caves and stupas were found at Jhalawar region located in the southern part of Rajasthan. The downfall of Gupta Empire in northern India started in around 5th century. The period after that was filled with instability as local chieftains tried to gain control of the region. Then Gurjara Partiharas emerged as the earliest Rajput class and later gained control of Rajasthan. Over the next few centuries, about 36 different Rajput clans had emerged in the region. These clans established different dynasties including Chauhans, Sisodias, Kachhwahas and Rathores. Chauhans were dominant in the 12th century and their territories included the present day Jaipur, Ranthambore, some part of Bundi district, Ajmer, etc. Other dynasties also ruled different regions of Rajasthan during different periods.
It is difficult to describe the true colors of Rajasthan in words. Rajasthan is the desert state of India and is home to some of the rare and endangered animal and bird life including desert fox, caracal, etc. Rajasthan offers a number of wildlife sanctuaries and national parks for wildlife lovers such as Keoladeo Ghana National Park, Ranthambore National Park, Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary, Sariska Tiger Reserve, etc. These wildlife sanctuaries offer visitors an opportunity to enjoy jungle safari and spot some rare Indian wildlife during their Rajasthan travel.
