The Pushkar Fair in Rajasthan is acclaimed as the biggest fair in India visited by thousands of people from different parts of the country. This is an event that should not be missed by a tourist on Rajasthan tour. During this unique fair, which continues for many days, people come with their camels and other farm animals. The main activities in which the visitors are involved include cattle selling, visiting different temples in Pushkar, and participating in religious festivals. The little town of Pushkar changes into a wonderful fair ground during the period of fair.


During the Pushkar fair, a large number of comedians and musicians and other artists perform acrobatics, folk dances, etc. You can also watch a large number of saints in bright colored dresses. The first half of the fair involves trading of camels and cattle. Temporary stalls are made in the ground in which are exhibited a variety of objects. People purchase beautiful artworks, handicraft items and objects of daily consumption. Various accessories for animals, cattle, etc., are sold in the fair. An interesting event held during the fair is camel and horse race. Judges also decide the best camel of the fair and the owner gets a prize for it. Religious activities and ceremonies are the highlights of the second half of the fair. In the second half of the fair, the devotees in Pushkar enjoy holy dip in Sarovar Lake that is believed to help a person achieve salvation.


Marwar Festival
Celebrated to remember the heroes of Rajasthan, the Marwar Festival is another famous festival of Rajasthan that one can enjoy during Rajasthan tour. This festival is organized every year during Sharad Poornima in Ashwin month of Hindu colander (September - October). The festival is celebrated for two days. Earlier, people used to know this festival by the name of Maand Festival which over the years changed into Marwar Festival. This festival is perfect to experience the music and dance styles of Marwar region of Rajasthan. A large number of folk dance performers and singers participate in the festival and show their skills to the spectators. The performing artists sing songs which narrate stories of bravery and valor of the heroes who sacrificed their lives for their homeland. The atmosphere all around remains lively and entertaining.
