This city offers beautiful sights of desert at sunset time. Small hills surround it on three sides while sand dunes are present on the fourth side. The word Pushkar means – “Like the Blue Lotus”. According to Hindu mythology, the demon Vajra Nabh was killed by Lord Brahma with a lotus flower. The petals of the flower landed at three sites in Pushkar from where emerged the different lakes. The mythology also says that this place is very dear to Lord Brahma, the creator of the world. Devotees in Pushkar enjoy holy bath in the lake, especially during the occasion of Kartik Purnima (full moon). They believe that anyone who takes a holy dip in Pushkar is relieved from his sins and gets liberation after death.

Pushkar offers a number of sites for tourists to explore during their Rajasthan holiday trip. The Pushkar Lake is a major attraction of the Pushkar city and is considered among the most sacred lakes for Hindus.
