Jaipur, the capital city of the state of Rajasthan, lies about 250 km from Delhi and is popularly known as the ‘Pink City’. It was established in the year 1727 by Raja Sawai Jai Singh II as a stronghold with different forts and palaces. Jaipur is a great tourist destination to explore during a trip to India. The rich culture and heritage of this city can be experienced through its magnificent forts, palaces, temples, and other historical monuments. The lively bazaars here have a timeless charm. Amber Fort - JaipurThe Amber Fort lies on a hill outside the main city of Jaipur. From the main road, you can reach the fort either by walking or on an elephant ride that takes you up to the main gate of the fort. Within the fort are some beautiful buildings including Jai Mandir, Hall of Mirrors (Sheesh Mahal), etc.
Constructed by Sawai Jai Singh, Jantar Mantar is among the biggest observatories of northern India. This observatory was designed at the time when hardly any instruments were available to measure time. The observatory features a number of ‘Yantras’ to observe and record the movements of sun, moon, and other celestial bodies.
The imposing and memorable Hawa Mahal lies in the heart of the city and mesmerizes the visitors with its unique architecture. The elaborately carved windows of this multi-layered palace are its main features. Red and pink sandstones were used beautifully in the construction of this palace.
September to March is the best period of the year to visit Jaipur. Sangner Airport in Jaipur is connected to other major cities of India through flights offered by Indian Airlines, Jet Airways, etc. The Indian railway also provides regular trains to Jaipur from other major cities. Tourists coming from Delhi prefer Shatabdi Express which provides comfortable journey. Bus services offered by RTDC (Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation) and other companies connect Jaipur to cities like Delhi, Agra and other cities of Rajasthan.
