Laxmi Villas Palace - BharatpurThere are a number of tourist attractions to watch in Bharatpur. Lohagarh Fort is a massive structure which was made in 18th century to get protection from British attacks. The design of the fort was prepared by Maharaja Suraj Mal. Within the fort are three different palaces known as Kishori Mal, Kotho Khas and Mahal Khas. Government Museum is perfect place to see the beautiful sculptures and a collection of some very old inscriptions. Keoladeo Ghana National Park or Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary is located about 3 km from the main Bharatpur city and is famous for variety of bird life that can be watched here. Every year groups of Siberian cranes come here in the month of July and August. More than 400 water bird species can be seen in this park.
From Bharatpur, the nearest airport is Agra, located about 54 km away. If you are coming from Bombay, you need to first take flight for Jaipur or Delhi as there is no direct flight to Agra from Bombay. Bharatpur is also connected to rest of the country by railway line. A well-maintained road network links Bharatpur to other cities of Rajasthan.
