The main highlight of the pushkar fair is the camel races, although the hilarious beauty contests featuring elaborately decorated and shaved camels are also entertaining.

Pushkar Camel Fair Accommodations:
The arrival of visitors during the pushkar camel fair causes the requirement for accommodations to very high, and hotel rates increase accordingly. There are two main options for managing a place to stay there - first you have to arrive a couple of days before the pushkar fair dates and find by itself (this is the cheaper way), second you have to book in advance by a travel company. How to Reach Pushkar:
Ajmer is the closest railway station to Pushkar city. From there it's an approx 30 minute drive through the aptly named Snake Mountain (Nag Parbat) to Pushkar city. The local buses are rundown and crowded but the fare is a simple 20 cents, and the trip very genuine. Auto rickshaws are also available to reach there. The fare should be around Rs. 120 rupees ($3), but can easily be more at the time of pushkar camel fair. The other op tion, the nearest airport is in Jaipur, around two and a half hours away from pushkar. Taxi fares can double during the pushkar festival, so you have to ready to pay between $35-$70.
